Ten-year-old Liko Arreola of Maui won the compound cub female division at the National Field Archery Association Vegas Shoot, held Feb. 9-11 in Las Vegas.
Arreola, a 5th-grader at Makawao Elementary School, bested a field of 40 archers from the U.S., Canada and Mexico to take the title.
She had a score of 581, hitting a division-best 21 bulls-eyes. Minnesota’s Zoie Thompson was second with 566 points and 11 bulls-eyes.
The Vegas Shoot is one of “the largest and most prestigious indoor archery tournaments in the world,” according to the NFAA website, attracting more than 3,500 novice to Olympic archers from around the world.
To prepare for the event, Arreola competed in tournaments on Oahu and the Big Island.
