What Do The Swamp People Do With The Snakes They Catch?

The Swamp People cast put the snakes to rest on the History Channel show. They catch the pythons and kill them.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) officially sanction a grant to kill the invasive Burmese Python considerately. Hence, the swamp people catch the Pythons and kill them.

Since the 1990s, Asian Burmese Pythons have established a large amount of breeding in South Florida, harming the ecosystem.

The python is a carnivore that preys on other reptiles and mammals, including small Snakes, raccoons and Opossums.

Since they were facing an ecological disturbance, Everglades National Park started a mission to capture the predator and eliminate the species' decline with the state's blessing.

It was a raging question, how did this indigenous reptile reach the Florida Penninsula? The answer is simple: research found that the captive snakes fled to the Florida peninsula due to Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

Following the hurricane, the snakes captured in a breeding facility found their way out to Florida, and the Pythons' population increased rapidly.

These encroaching reptiles made their way up to the Everglades National Park and started disrupting their ecosystem, which resulted in a vast decline in smaller mammals.

Recently, a new member joined the swamp team. She is Tes Lee, who has been a snake catcher since childhood. Lee has shared many pictures of their team's effort to catch the snakes.

On 17th February, Lee uploaded an Instagram picture while holding a large Python.

Per USGS, there is a vast drop in populations of Opposums, Raccoons, Bobcats, Rabbits and Foxes ranging from 87%-97%.

Moreover, Florida State sponsors an annual Program that offers a reward for eliminating the snake to maintain the ecosystem. The state also provides yearly contracts to python removal pundits.
